Amazon Elastic Computer Cloud servers greatly appeal to entry-level, low-power, test, project, or production work. Let’s talk about their conveniences, advantages, and subtleties.
Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud: how does it work?
Amazon continues evolving high-performance cloud computing with new Amazon EC2 instances. So, how does it work?
Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) provides resizable cloud computing power that allows you to scale your resources to handle peak workloads instantly. Elasticity allows servers to change in minutes rather than hours or days. Flexibility – choose the most suitable server configuration (memory, processor, disk, OS). And full control allows you to have access to absolutely all services of the operating system and manage it. For more demanding and savvy users, these are exactly the conditions we need, so we took several new web servers from Amazon, not from a standard host that provides a fixed amount of resources for a certain time.
Amazon EC2 allows you to quickly and flexibly manage your VM configuration and quickly scale your resources to handle increased workloads. Such a virtual server involves hourly payment. So, the technology has powerful features for building scalable, fault-tolerant, enterprise-class applications.
Basic features
Amazon EC2 allows you to increase or decrease processing power in minutes, not hours or days. In addition, you can go live with a single Server instance or hundreds or even thousands of Server Instances simultaneously. And since the web service API manages all these processes, the application can automatically scale in any direction depending on current needs.
Here is a list of some prominent features of the Amazon EC2:
- Ensuring compliance. The AWS infrastructure supports dozens of compliance programs. It means that some of the compliance tasks that are relevant to you have already been completed.
- Fast scaling. Security scales with your AWS cloud usage. Regardless of the size of your company, AWS infrastructure is designed to keep your data secure.
- Lower cost. Amazon EC2 provides the financial benefits of operating a large-scale computing infrastructure. You pay only for the used computing resources at a very competitive price.
- Availability in multiple regions. Amazon EC2 allows you to host instances in numerous locations. Amazon EC2 locations are made up of regions and availability zones. By running instances in separate availability zones, you can protect your applications from failures in one of the locations. Regions consist of one or more availability zones, are geographically dispersed, and are located in different geographic areas or countries. The Amazon EC2 SLA implies 99.99% availability for each Amazon EC2 region.
Amazon EC2 high-performance storage instances
Customers who need high-speed, low-latency random I/O access can use High-Performance Storage Instances. A high-performance storage instance is a type of Amazon EC2 instance capable of delivering speeds above 3 million random IOPS for customers. I3 and I3en high-performance storage instances are built on NVMe-based SSDs and are ideal for high-performance NoSQL databases, transactional systems, and Elastic Search workloads. High-performance storage instances also provide up to 16 GB/s sequential media throughput. It is sufficient for any analytics workload.
Different Amazon EC2 workloads may have significantly different data storage requirements. Therefore, in addition to built-in instance storage, Amazon Elastic Block Store (Amazon EBS) and Amazon Elastic File System (Amazon EFS) are also available to meet other cloud storage workload requirements.
